Alexandros Kanterakis studied computer science at the University of Crete, Greece and did his M.Sc. in bioinformatics in the Foundation For Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH). The past two years, he is a PhD student in the area of bioinformatics and computational biology at the Genomics Coordination Center, UMC Groningen. The main part of his studies is to perform analysis on the variation of the DNA of the Dutch population. The target of the analysis is to produce a dataset that will act as a reference for the identification of novel factors that contribute to genetic diseases. Alexandros uses python to coordinate the numerous computational pipelines that analyze the PB-sized datasets in a grid (e-BioGrid) environment. To fulfill the diverse needs of this task and to help his colleagues collaborate into developing, testing and documenting python scripts he built PyPedia.
